Charity fundraising
As some of our Christmas services had to be cancelled where we would have raised funds for two charities, we are making a special effort to collect donations over a four-week period. On Sundays 30th January and 6th February we are raising funds for the Dolma foundation, the following two weeks will be for Jenga. There will be a separate box to make donations – there will still be our usual collection for St Martin’s.
The Dolma Foundation is a charity based in Nepal that is working to alleviate poverty by investing in education, health and sustainable businesses. At the moment, they are focusing on helping The Trinetra Foundation. This is a home for blind children who have no families. Local hotels and businesses helped with the cost of running the home but since the pandemic hit, many of these hotels have closed down. This means Trinetra have lost their main source of income. If enough money cannot be raised to keep the home open, the children will have nowhere to go. Nepal does not have a welfare system. The reality is that these very vulnerable children would end up living on the streets. If you can give anything at all to help support this charity, it would be very gratefully received. The home not only provides a safe place for these children to live, but also an education which hopefully means they will be able to break out of the cycle of poverty that many in Nepal are trapped in. Thank you so much for your support.
